In terms of foreign direct investments, Dnipropetrovsk region ranked first among the regions of Ukraine in 2020

The volume of foreign direct investments accrued as of December 31, 2020, amounted to $4 722.1 mln. According to this indicator, the region has been leading among the other regions of Ukraine for 10 years.

Directly in 2020, foreign investors put up $81.5 mln of direct investments in the economy of the Dnipropetrovsk region, which is 54% more than last year.

Investments in the regional economy came from 64 countries of the world. 94% of the total amount of foreign direct investments came from the EU countries  ̶  $4437.3 mln.

Major investing countries:

  • Cyprus – $2 012,9 mln (42.6% of the total volume of direct investments in the region) – 325 companies with foreign investments;
  • Netherlands – $1723.4 mln (36.5%) – 24 companies with foreign investments;
  • Germany – $585.6 mln (12.4%) – 55 companies with foreign investments;
  • British Virgin Islands – $73.4 mln (1.6%) – 88 companies with foreign investments;
  • Switzerland – $37.3 mln (0.8%) – 18 companies with foreign investments;
  • other countries – $289.5 mln (6.1%)

By type of economic activity, the largest volume of direct investments was directed to industry $3 402.4 mln (72.1% of the total), of which $1,279 mln – to the processing industry, and $2,046.5 mln – to the mining industry.

The second place in terms of investments volume is occupied by wholesale and retail trade – $677.5 mln (14.3%).

$602.5 mln was invested in the service sector and the largest share was directed to real estate operations – $342.9 mln and transport, storage facilities – $149.9 mln.

Investments in the agro-industrial complex and construction are almost on the same level, the volume of which amounted to $20.6 mln (0.4%) and $19.1 mln (0.4%), respectively.

The volume of direct investments (share capital) from the region into the economies of the countries of the world at the end of 2020 amounted to $9.7 mln.
