Success story in Dnipropetrovsk region: a milling enterprise with export potential

Dnipropetrovsk region continues to serve as a reliable platform for business relocation, investment project launches, and entrepreneurship development. A compelling example is the story of entrepreneur Oleksandr Orekhin, who was forced to leave his native city Dniprorudne (Zaporizhzhia region) due to occupation and relocated to the city of Samar in Dnipropetrovsk region, where he implemented his own investment project.

In May 2023, he established Donchenko Mill” LLC – a modern milling enterprise operating according to European standards. The investment project received state support in the form of a “eRobota” microgrant worth 250,000 UAH, as well as financial assistance from Germany’s organic association. The entrepreneur’s own investments amounted to an additional 150,000 UAH – these funds were allocated for the procurement of professional Italian equipment and production launch.

In Q2 2025, the enterprise expanded its production capacity by launching an Italian-manufactured roller mill for producing high-quality bakery flour. Currently, the products are undergoing laboratory testing for quality compliance indicators.

Today, “Donchenko Mill” produces over 15 types of flour and cereals from wheat, rye, buckwheat, spelt, lentils, and rice. The production capacity allows for processing up to 10 tons of raw materials monthly, with products already being supplied to the EU market, particularly for manufacturing children’s snacks.

The enterprise leases land in Dnipropetrovsk region that is currently undergoing organic standards certification – another step toward localizing the production chain and creating a complete “field-to-shelf” cycle.

Future plans include developing vegetable cultivation and creating an agritourism facility based on a historic windmill that the entrepreneur dreams of restoring after the deoccupation of his native region. Additionally, the opening of a proprietary bakery is being considered, which would allow for further business diversification.

Currently, Oleksandr Orekhin serves in the Armed Forces of Ukraine; however, thanks to efficiently organized operations, the enterprise continues to function successfully. The investment project has become an example of successful relocation, implementation of sustainable production practices, attraction of state and international grants, as well as economic adaptation under wartime conditions.

Dnipropetrovsk region once again confirms its status as a region open to investors, internally displaced entrepreneurs, and innovative initiatives. Through business activity, state support, and international partnerships, new jobs are being created, export opportunities are expanding, and a stable environment for recovery is being formed.
