The surplus of foreign trade in goods of Dnipropetrovsk region in the 1st quarter of 2020 amounted to $741.7 mln

EXPORTS

Export of goods from Dnipropetrovsk region to the world countries in the 1st quarter of 2020 amounted to $1.87 bln (15.3% of the export volume of Ukraine). This is the first figure among Ukrainian regions. The positive balance amounted to $741.7 mln. Exports of goods exceeded imports by 40%.

Industrial products account for the largest share (93.6%) in goods exports. The region exported more than a quarter of Ukraine’s industrial products worth $1.749.4 mln.  Ferrous metals and products thereof 53% ($987.7 mln) as well as ores and slag 30% ($559 mln) were exported most of all. It should be noted that the share of these products in Ukraine’s exports was 48% and 60% respectively.

Products of agro-industrial complex and food industry with a share of 5.9% were exported in the amount of $109.7 mln. At the same time, construction products (0.5%) – in the amount of $9.2 mln.

Export volumes of such products have increased significantly:

  • raw hides, crafted leather by 15.5 times ($1.8 mln);
  • milk and dairy products; poultry eggs; natural honey by 4 times ($2.9 mln).
  • cotton wool by 89% ($0,4 mln)
  • railway locomotives by 54% ($95.6 mln).

China became the leader among consumers of Ukrainian goods. Exports to this country increased 2.4 times compared to the same period of the last year and amounted to $338.9 mln.

Poland took the second place among the world consumers of the region’s products. Exports to the country decreased by 15.6% compared to the corresponding period of 2019, but still occupies a leading position. Exports amounted to $144.2 mln.

Turkey ranks third among world consumers in the region. Exports to the country had a positive dynamics, and increased by 23.3% in the corresponding period of 2019. Exports amounted to $113.4 mln.

Export of goods to Nigeria, Denmark, Belgium, Bulgaria, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, Canada and Ethiopia increased significantly.

 

IMPORTS

Imports of goods from the world in the 1st quarter of 2020 amounted to $1.13 bln (8.5% of Ukraine’s imports).

The largest share (85.9%) in imports of goods is occupied by industrial products worth $967.6 mln.

Products of agro-industrial complex and food industry with a share of 11.9% were imported in the amount of $134.6 mln, while construction products (2.2%) – in the amount of $24.4 mln.

In comparison with the corresponding period of the last year volumes of import, first of all goods of the processing industry, in particular have considerably increased,:

  • finished grain products 3 by times ($9.9 mln);
  • production of flour-and-cereals industry by 2,3 times ($3.2 mln);
  • milk and dairy products; poultry eggs; natural honey by 2 times ($12.6 mln).
  • food industry residues and waste by 2 times ($3.9 mln)
  • electric machines by 80% ($113.3 mln).

Among the countries of the world, whose products were most imported by Dnipropetrovsk region, the leader is China. Imports amounted to $216.6 mln and increased by 6% compared to the same period of the last year.

Russia ranks the second (with a decline of 47.6%) and $172.2 mln.

Germany is on the third place. Imports amounted to $67.3 mln and decreased by 23.5% compared to the corresponding period of 2019.

Imports from Colombia, Malaysia, Latvia, Moldova and Lithuania more than doubled.

Foreign trade operations were conducted with partners from 146 countries.
