The United States continues to strongly support Ukraine and provide it with weapons and equipment, financial, humanitarian and advisory assistance.
The United States is working closely with allies and partners to make Russia pay for the war against Ukraine, deter potential attacks on NATO countries, and hold Russia accountable for atrocities and war crimes.
US President Joe Biden paid an unannounced visit to Kyiv on February 20. This is the first visit of an American leader to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia a year ago. It is also the first visit of the US president to Ukraine since 2008. “A lot has changed since the last trip. Terrible things happened – the invasion, but at the same time the Ukrainians showed themselves in a way that very few peoples have ever shown themselves in their defense. And they helped us understand the meaning of democracy,” said Biden. After meeting with President Zelensky, President Joe Biden announced that the United States, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has provided more than $374 million in additional humanitarian assistance in response to ongoing needs caused by Putin’s war against Ukraine.
Also, Ukraine received free of charge 105 units of energy equipment from USAID worth more than $100,000. The United States provided humanitarian aid to Ukraine for $9.9 billion, which exceeds the total amount of such aid from other countries and organizations.
The United States sheltered more than 80,000 refugees as part of the “Unity for Ukraine” program. The program gives the right to enter the United States of America and stay in the country for a period of up to 2 years under a humanitarian permit, the so-called “humanitarian password”.
In September 2022, the US Agency for International Development launched a five-year project to support the financial sector of Ukraine worth $33 million.
The United States remains the largest donor of military aid to Ukraine – its volume has exceeded $23 billion since February last year.
We will remind that the first military aid after the start of a full-scale war was allocated by the administration of Joe Biden on February 25 – $350 million. In March 2022, the United States allocated military aid to Ukraine in the total amount of $1.1 billion, which included anti-aircraft systems, Javelin anti-tank systems, grenade launchers, rifles, machine guns, helmets, body armor, AT-4 armor-piercing systems and other weapons. Ukraine received $1.2 billion in military aid from the United States in April. In particular, on April 24, it became known that the United States allocated foreign military funding for Ukraine ($320 million) and 15 other allied countries.
Last year, in May, Ukraine received two packages of military aid from the United States – $150 million and $100 million.
On June 1, Biden announced that the United States would provide Ukraine with HIMARS missile systems and ammunition for them, Javelin, anti-tank weapons, artillery shells, helicopters and other weapons worth $700 million.
Another $1 billion aid package was announced on June 15: it included artillery, coastal defense equipment, ammunition for artillery and advanced missile systems. On June 23, Ukraine received another $450 million in aid.
The United States allocated three packages of military aid in July: July 1 – $820 million, July 8 – $400 million, July 22 – $270 million.
In August, the United States provided $2.3 billion in military aid to Ukraine. Joe Biden announced a record package at that time on Ukraine’s Independence Day – $2.98 billion. This aid package included NASAMS air defense systems, mortar and artillery shells, counter-battery radars, and missile systems and other weapons.
In September, the amount of American military aid to Ukraine was almost $3 billion: September 8 – $675 million, September 15 – $600 million, September 26 – $450 million, September 28 – $1.1 billion.
In October, the USA allocated three packages of military aid to Ukraine for $625 million, $725 million and $275 million, in November – two packages of $400 million each.
On December 9, military aid to Ukraine in the amount of $275 million was announced, and the US completed a year of aid in the amount of $1 billion 850 million (this included Patriot air defense systems).
On January 6, the United States announced the allocation of a record amount of military aid to Ukraine – $3 billion 75 million. It includes fifty Bradley BMPs, armored personnel carriers, self-propelled howitzers, artillery and mortar shells, ammunition for HIMARS, anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles and other weapons. On January 19, it became known about another $2.5 billion in assistance.
The United States of America has a clear plan to finance the aid Ukraine needs for almost the entire year 2023. It is about both security and economic, humanitarian and energy aid.
The USA remains an important trade and investment partner of Dnipropetrovsk region. A bilateral analysis of external activities testifies to the high level of partnership relations. The country ranks 8th among exporters from Dnipropetrovsk region and ranks 6th in the import of goods among the countries of the world.
According to the results of 2022, the volume of exports of goods from Dnipropetrovsk region due to the military aggression of the Russian Federation decreased by 34.5% ($288.7 million), which accounted for 4.6% of the total volume of exports of goods from the region. Among the goods that are in the greatest demand among American consumers are ferrous metals and their products, parts for railway locomotives, copper and its products, etc.
Export operations were carried out by 76 enterprises from Dnipropetrovsk region.
The main exporting companies are enterprises of the metallurgical complex, processing industry and machine-building enterprises.

The import of goods from the USA to Dnipropetrovsk region amounted to $193.7 million (4.9% of the total volume of import of goods from the region) and decreased by 14% compared to 2021. Dnipropetrovsk region traditionally bought oil and products of its distillation, means of land transport, machines and equipment, plastics and polymeric materials, etc.
Import operations were carried out by 336 importer enterprises.
