Ukrposhta launches Ukrposhta Bank: a new stage of financial inclusion in Ukraine

After the amendments to the legislation, namely draft law No. 12044, are approved, the postal bank will function as a financial inclusion operator. This decision will provide access to banking services for more than 30% of Ukrainians, in particular in areas close to the combat zone, in the de-occupied territories and in remote parts of the country.

“Ukrposhta Bank will operate under a special limited banking license. The bank will be able to offer basic financial services: social payments, bill payments, account opening, etc. Particular attention will be paid to socially vulnerable groups and small businesses that need support. Conditions will be created for people with limited mobility and people with disabilities to receive banking services directly at home. Even in the absence of electricity or communication, basic financial services will remain available in the frontline and rural regions, which is extremely important in a crisis.

A significant part of the population, especially in rural areas and regions close to the war zone, faces limited access to banking infrastructure. The launch of Ukrposhta Bank will allow the state to significantly optimize costs, saving more than UAH 5 billion over the next three to five years on the delivery of pensions and social benefits. In addition, this year, the entire territory of Ukraine will be covered by banking infrastructure, which will ensure equal access to financial services for every citizen.

It is expected that the institution will become one of the leaders in terms of the number of branches, and in the future plans to become one of the five largest banks by the number of customers, relying on the existing base of more than six million active users of Ukrposhta services.

The adoption of the relevant legislation will enable Ukrposhta Bank to provide banking services to people with disabilities and those who currently do not have access to traditional banking infrastructure.

This decision of the Government is an important step in the implementation of the state strategy of financial inclusion, which is of particular importance in wartime.
